도리사
Dorisa Temple, located at the foot of Naengsan Mountain (694m) in Gumi, Gyeongsangbuk-do, is a historic temple founded in the early Silla Dynasty. It is said to have been first built around the 5th century.
According to legend, the Goguryeo monk Ado Hwasang founded the temple here after witnessing the mystical sight of peach and pear blossoms blooming even in winter.
Dorisa Temple houses a shrine dedicated to Ado Hwasang and various historical and cultural assets.
Key attractions include the Geungnakjeon Hall (Treasure No. 466), which showcases the unique architectural style of the temple, the unique five-story stone pagoda (Treasure No. 470), and the wooden seated Amitabha Buddha statue.
The temple’s tranquil natural surroundings offer visitors a peaceful experience.
Dorisa Temple is one of the oldest temples in Korea and holds significant significance in understanding the early spread and development of Korean Buddhism.
The temple also operates a temple stay program, where you can experience Zen meditation, traditional etiquette, and other practices. It is open year-round.
