Dosan Seowon (Dosanseowon), located in Andong, North Gyeongsang Province, is a representative Confucian academy of the Joseon Dynasty.
It was built by the disciples of Toegye Yi Hwang (1868-1910), a leading Neo-Confucian scholar of the Joseon Dynasty, to commemorate his scholarship and virtue.
Dosan Seowon is largely divided into Dosanseodang (Dosan Seodang) and the Dosan Seowon area.
*Dosan Seodang is the oldest building, having been designed by Toegye Yi Hwang himself, where he resided and taught his disciples.
*Dosan Seowon received royal approval and developed into a center for etiquette and education, particularly serving as a center of Confucianism in the Yeongnam region during the Joseon Dynasty.
In 2019, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the title “Seowon of Korea.”
