Eongal Coast is a beautiful coastal walking trail located in Gosan-ri, Hangyeong-myeon, Jeju City. It’s considered one of Jeju Island’s 31 hidden scenic spots. “Eongal” means “cliff” (eong) and “down” (al) in the Jeju dialect. True to its name, the trail follows the cliff’s base, offering a breathtaking view of the harmony between the solid sedimentary rock strata and the ocean.
The trail is approximately 1km long and takes about 30 minutes to an hour to complete. The gentle slope makes it an easy walk for everyone. Along the way, you can admire the breathtaking scenery, with small islands stretching across the horizon, particularly Chagwido and Sagwido, both designated nature reserves. Surrounding the trail are the remains of artificial caves used during the Pacific War and the Japanese colonial period, offering a glimpse into Jeju’s history.
The Eongal Coastal Walking Trail is included on Course 12 of the Jeju Olle Trail, making it a great spot for trekking and a popular destination for its beautiful sunsets.
