Gamcheon Culture Village is a unique and vibrant arts village located in Gamcheon-dong, Saha-gu, Busan. It began as a residential area for refugees after the Korean War in the 1950s. With its multi-story houses built along the hillside, narrow, winding alleyways, and colorful murals and sculptures, it has become a popular tourist destination, nicknamed “Busan’s Santorini” or “Busan’s Machu Picchu.”
Since 2009, the local government, artists, and residents have collaborated on a revitalization project to renovate old houses and install murals and public art pieces. This project transformed the once-deserted village into a vibrant cultural hub. Today, galleries, cafes, and experience spaces of all sizes dot the village, making it a cultural destination.
