Gyeongdong Market is a traditional market located at 3 Gosanja-ro 36-gil, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul. Opened in 1960, it is Korea’s largest traditional medicine (herbal medicine) market.
It offers a wide variety of herbal medicine ingredients, as well as wild and mountain plants like bellflower root and deodeok, fresh vegetables, fruits, and seafood. It is a market where long-standing traditions coexist with modern health concerns.
The market also features a Starbucks Gyeongdong 1960 store, which opened in 2022 in the remodeled former Gyeongdong Theater building, creating a new cultural space.
Some stores are open on Sundays and public holidays, making this a popular traditional market for visitors seeking not only herbal medicine but also grocery shopping and culinary experiences.
