The Gyeongju Royal Tombs are a cluster of ancient tombs from the Silla Dynasty, located in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province. They are part of the Gyeongju Historic Site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Daereungwon Tombs, a cluster of ancient tombs built over approximately 1,000 years, are particularly famous.
These include the Royal Tomb of King Michu, Hwangnamdaechong Tomb, and Cheonmachong Tomb. Cheonmachong Tomb, which yielded a painting of a flying horse, a magnificent gold crown, and other artifacts, demonstrates Silla’s exceptional culture and artistic excellence.
Hwangnamdaechong Tomb is the largest Silla tomb, boasting considerable length and height, and features a twin tomb structure with a male and female tombs placed side by side.
Daereumwon Tomb, a cluster of ancient tombs for Silla’s kings and nobles, is an important historical site offering a glimpse into ancient culture, art, and architectural techniques.
Nearby attractions include Cheomseongdae Observatory and Hwangridan-gil.
