Gyeongui Line Forest Park is an urban green space in Mapo-gu, Seoul. It is a 6.3km linear park built on the former Gyeongui Line railroad line. Reminiscent of New York’s Central Park, it is a nature-friendly urban space.
Easily accessible from Exit 3 of Hongik University Station, the park features lush green trails, a small pond and stream, lawns, and exercise areas equipped with exercise equipment, offering a relaxing retreat for walkers and residents. Surrounding the park are trendy cafes, restaurants, boutiques, and art galleries, offering a chance to stroll, shop, and experience culture all at once.
Restored railway tracks and some train cars offer a glimpse into the history of the railroad. The northern section of the Gyeongui Line also features the Gyeongui Line Book Street, a reading space that hosts various cultural events. The park’s scenery is even more beautiful during the cherry blossom season in spring and the autumn foliage season. It is a representative green space in Seoul perfect for family outings, dates, and solo strolls.
