Located on the western side of Bukhansan National Park, this thousand-year-old temple was built in 1011 during the reign of King Hyeonjong of the Goryeo Dynasty to honor the monk Jingwan.
It is said that Jingwan saved the king’s life in his youth, and the king granted permission for its construction.
Jingwansa Temple enjoyed state support during the Joseon Dynasty, serving as a center of scholarship and Buddhism as a seowon (Confucian academy).
Jingwansa Temple is also known as a training center for female monks (Bhikkuni) and offers a temple stay program for mental and physical healing and Buddhist cultural experiences.
This temple offers a relatively quiet and peaceful atmosphere in Seoul. Visitors can enjoy tea meditation, visits to the temple buildings, and strolls. It’s also a great spot to explore the nearby Eunpyeong Hanok Village.
Jingwansa Temple offers a temple stay program, allowing visitors to experience Buddhist culture.
