Mudeungsan National Park (Mudeungsan National Park) is a national park located on the border of Gwangju Metropolitan City and Hwasun and Damyang counties in South Jeolla Province.
It is a famous destination, boasting Mudeungsan Mountain, which stands at 1,187 meters above sea level, and a diverse range of rocky peaks, valleys, temples, and natural ecosystems.
It is also renowned for its seasonal silvery silver grass fields and fall foliage, and winter snowfall, making it a popular hiking destination.
Main Attractions and Trails
Cheonwangbong Peak (1,187 meters), Jiwangbong Peak, and Inwangbong Peak: The three peaks representing Mudeungsan Mountain, particularly the vertical rock formations of Seoseokdae and Ipseokdae, are truly unique among Korean national parks.
Jangbuljae and Baekma Ridge: Hiking and viewing points renowned for their expansive grasslands and silvery silver grass fields.
Trekking Course: The main trail is Wonhyosa Temple ~ Seoseokdae ~ Ipseokdae ~ Jangbuljae ~ Jeungsimsa Temple (approximately 5 hours, 7.5km round trip). The difficulty level is moderate, with a mix of rocky ridges and flat trails. For beginners, we recommend only the Jeungsimsa Temple – Jangbuljae – Seoseokdae section (2-3 hours round trip).
*Temples and Cultural Facilities:
– Visit several temples, including Jeungsimsa Temple (dating back to the Silla Dynasty, featuring iron Buddhas and gold Buddhist paintings), Wonhyosa Temple (a serene mountain temple with beautiful gardens), and Yaksasa Temple.
– Uje Museum (Uijae Art Museum): A museum dedicated to the artist Heo Baek-ryeon, capturing the beauty of Mudeungsan Mountain.
Recommended Itineraries
*For a 4-5 hour round trip: Wonhyosa Temple ➡ Seoseokdae ➡ Ipseokdae ➡ Jangbuljae ➡ Jeungsimsa Temple
*For a short hike focused on scenery: Jeungsimsa Temple – Jangbuljae – Seoseokdae section (approximately 2-3 hours round trip)
