The National Maritime Museum of Korea (NMK) is a leading maritime museum in South Korea, located at 45 Haeyang-ro 301beon-gil, Yeongdo-gu, Busan. Opened in 2012, it is the third largest museum in the country. The museum building, with its unique exterior resembling a water drop, has become a Busan landmark.
The museum offers a variety of exhibitions on maritime culture, history, marine life, and science. Approximately 14,000 maritime artifacts are displayed in permanent exhibition halls, special exhibition halls, and a children’s exhibition hall. Exhibits include a large model of the Joseon Dynasty diplomatic mission ship, the Joseon Tongsinsa Ship, maritime maps, astronomical disks, and marine life.
Main facilities include a library, an aquarium, a large auditorium, an outdoor performance hall, and a 4D theater. The museum also offers educational programs for children and families. The aquarium offers observations of sharks and a variety of marine life.
Operating hours are 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Tuesday through Friday, and until 7:00 PM on weekends and public holidays. Closed on Mondays. Admission is free (excluding the 4D theater and special exhibitions).
